Youth Cannabis Education, Prevention & Early Intervention Practical Help for Teens, Parents and Schools
Today’s cannabis products are very different from marijuana of the past. Vapes, concentrates, edibles and high-potency products can be easy to conceal and difficult for parents and schools to recognize.
Evergreen Counseling Associates offers respectful, age-appropriate cannabis education and early-intervention services for middle and high school students. Our goal is not to lecture, frighten or shame teens. We provide accurate information, encourage honest discussion and help young people develop healthier ways to manage stress, pressure and everyday challenges.
We help teens add more tools to their toolbox.
Flexible Program Settings Youth cannabis services may be provided through:
Individual Education and Counseling
Private sessions allow the program to be tailored to the teen’s circumstances, questions, pattern of use and level of concern.
Facilitator-Led Teen Groups
Small groups give students an opportunity to learn, participate in activities and discuss cannabis-related issues with other teens in a structured setting.
Schools and Community Organizations
The five-lesson program may be offered in educational, school, court, agency or community settings. Program content can be adjusted for middle school or high school students and for prevention or early-intervention groups.
Parent and Caregiver Support
Parents are often unsure what to say, what signs to watch for or how to respond without immediately creating an argument.
Parent support may include:
Current information about cannabis products and potency
Signs that may indicate teen cannabis use
Guidance for beginning a productive conversation
Strategies that are more likely to help teens listen
Take-home discussion materials
Recommendations for additional assessment or treatment when needed
Our goal is to help families respond with accurate information, clear expectations and continued communication.
A Respectful Approach Teens are more likely to participate when they feel heard and respected. For years, Evergreen has used a compassionate, non-confrontational approach with clients. We encourage teens to think critically, recognize risks and make informed decisions. We validate the choice not to use while also helping teens who are experimenting or using regularly consider reducing, pausing or stopping their cannabis use.
Services are educational and practical—not one-size-fits-all. When More Support Is Needed Some teens may need more than education alone. Individual counseling, family involvement or referral to a specialized adolescent treatment or mental-health provider may be recommended when cannabis use is frequent, difficult to control or connected to significant emotional, behavioral, legal or school problems. Evergreen does not provide emergency, detoxification, inpatient or residential youth treatment. When a higher level of care is needed, families will be encouraged to connect with an appropriate provider.
